Finance and Space is a pioneering interdisciplinary journal focusing on diverse aspects of the spatial production of finance and the financial production of space. As such, it addresses some of the most profound processes and pressing challenges of our times, including digitization, neoliberalization, financialization, globalization and deglobalization, uneven development, power, and inequalities, (in)security, the environmental crisis, and the role of finance in building more sustainable economies.
While dedicated to a geographical imagination, the journal is founded on the belief that advancing our understanding of the changing finance-space nexus requires an interdisciplinary approach and heterodox thinking about finance across space and time. This includes, but is not limited to, political economy and political science, economics and regional science, sociology, anthropology, housing studies, environmental studies, financial history, development studies, and urban and regional planning, in addition to geography, regional studies, and urban studies. The distinctive purpose of Finance and Space is to connect insights across intellectual disciplines in a systematic and grounded way to understand how and why finance and space co-evolve, and impacts on economy, society, and the environment. The journal is a pluralist forum, which showcases diverse perspectives and analytical techniques.
The journal is published by the Regional Studies Association and the Global Network on Financial Geography (FinGeo).
The journal welcomes the following types of submissions:
Full length original research articles (8,000 words including footnotes but excluding abstract, keywords, tables, figures, and bibliography).
Commentaries focusing on recent developments in the subject area, including strategy and policy in private and public sectors (2,000 words including footnotes but excluding abstract, keywords, tables, figures, and bibliography).
Visualisations (FinVis) showing research-based innovative maps and other visualisations of the finance-space nexus (with an accompanying text of up to 500 words). We are interested in visualisations broadly defined as any type of image, including graphs, artwork, infographics, and photographs.
